One of the characteristics of theological liberals is that we do not claim to know it all. The idea that we can have absolute certainty is very attractive, especially at times of stress, but only God is infallible.

This means not only that the things we believe are incomplete and open to review, but also that people from very different traditions often have insights to bring us. We should be able to care passionately about the difference between truth and error without mistaking it for the dividing line between one religion and another.
