The April mailing to members of Modern Church included an invitation to the Annual General Meeting.
On the reverse of that invitation was the opportunity to nominate someone, or offer yourself for nomination for places on the Modern Church Council. In case that piece of paper has slipped down behind the clock on the mantelpiece or ended up in the green/blue bin, this is a reminder of what it said and of the opportunities facing us.
The AGM takes place on Tuesday 15 July at 2.15pm during the annual conference at High Leigh Conference Centre. You are very welcome to come just for the meeting or to book in for lunch before the meeting. Council consists of up to 30 members plus the treasurer, each of whom serves for a minimum of 3 years. This year, Mrs Pat Boyd, Rev Tim Laundon, Mrs Suzanne Long, Mr David Marshall, Rev Clare Nicholson, Rev Canon Trevor Pitt, Rev Canon Alan Race and Rev Tim Stead are stepping down but can be nominated for re-election if they are willing to stand for election. Still on the Council are: Rev Dr Jeyan Anketell, Mrs Jean Barnett, Mrs Helen Burnett, Rev Dr Lorraine Cavanagh, Rev Jonathan Clatworthy, Rev Canon David Driscoll, Rev Guy Elsmore, Rev Ruth Fitter, Rev Anthony Freeman, Rev John Goldsmith, Mr Richard Hall, Rev David Howard, Rev David James, Rev Peter Law-Jones, Prof Adrian Thatcher, Rev Jan van der Lely, Mr Anthony Woollard and Mrs Rosalind Lund (treasurer). Thus there are vacancies for up to 13 council members.
The two main tasks of council members are:
To elect the Trustees
To help guide the Trustees on broad policies for Modern Church, principally in an annual residential meeting at the end of February.
So it will be clear that these are positions which enable members to have a real influence on the future direction of the organisation, as well as getting to know one another better!
