This part-time, paid role is an exciting opportunity within the organisation.
We are looking for someone with vision to help provide Modern Church with the resources to support an open and undogmatic approach to Christianity which can face the challenges of the contemporary world.
Salary: this is a half time post of on average 18.5 hours per week at £17,500, with pension provision and expenses.

Job Summary/Description
- External Relations
To provide an accessible public face of Modern Church and to represent its concerns and interests to wider constituencies in church, media and other bodies.
- To write regular contributions to theological debate especially with regard to the Church of England, ecumenism and interfaith relations, via letters to the church press, blog posts, journal articles etc.
- To maintain and where possible raise the public profile of MC through selected opportunities such as media work and attendance at conferences.
- To represent MC on wider bodies with similar interests, such as Inclusive Church, SCM, One Body One Church, Greenbelt and Mosaic.
- Membership and Internal Relations
To encourage and inform MC members in their journeys of faith and their engagement with church and society.
- To oversee and co-ordinate the development of further educational resources for members to complement existing publications strategy
- To contribute, where appropriate, to planning and delivery of MC’s annual conference in consultation with the conference chair
- Provide the lead and initiative to create and see through new projects, as agreed with Trustees, for the organisation in order to promote the objects of MC. This might include support for regional group meetings, online discussion groups or other occasional events for MC members and others.
To contribute to the development of the organisation
- Report at meetings of MC trustees, Council and regional conferences including the Annual Conference and AGM.
- Act as line manager for the Comms Officer and Administrator.
- Other duties as specified by the Trustees.
- Be accountable to the Trustees through the Chair.
To help maintain the long-term sustainability of the organisation
- Responsible, with others, with ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of MC, e.g through widening and consolidating membership and encouraging legacy giving from existing members
- To participate in on-going review of MC’s environmental impact, e.g. communications, publications and events

- Communicant member of the CofE
- Committed to the vision of Modern Church
- Has an academic enquiring mind
- Self-motivator and used to working alone
- Good at self-management and able to manage own time
- A collaborative worker, who understands the need for good communications with others offsite, and therefore be comfortable with digital ways of working
- Some experience of line-management of colleagues
- Vision holder for MC and its role in the wider church and society
- Skilled at writing theology with fluency
- Skilled theological communicator
- Able to analyse and critique publications
- Experienced in dealing with the media and communicating via social media and directly with the press
- Available to appear on Sunday media to represent MC
- Able to travel to represent MC around the country
