Monday 18th May, 7 – 8pm
‘I’m Not a Theologian, But…’
This is the theme of forthcoming Modern Church retreat at Holland House, Worcestershire, in April (places are still available). It’s such an important conversation that we thought it would be good to pick it up with a wider Modern Church audience. Why do so many of us disqualify ourselves from ‘being theologians’? Is it the Church, the academy, or both, that prevent us from embracing the truth that Christians are all already theologians, by virtue of our baptism? If we set aside the notion that ‘theology’ is an impenetrable activity undertaken by church professionals or academics, designed merely to service the church, what might emerge? What if theology is simply the activity by which we talk to and of God? A way in which we bring our experience of the world into dialogue with the faith tradition we both inherit and can change? what then? What new and exciting directions might there be for our spiritual development? Come along and share your thoughts about the place and potential of theology.
Zoom link will be emailed to members – if you do not receive it by the event date, please contact office@modernchurch.org.uk
This event is members-only. Find out about becoming a Modern Church member here.
Forum is Modern Church’s members-only, facilitated online discussion space. It provides the opportunity for open theological exploration: a place to tell stories, share ideas, doubts and questions.
Forum is responsive to the desires of its members, so the programme is flexible. It works alongside Modern Church’s other activities, offering members the chance to ‘go deeper’, providing a platform to discuss our blogs, Modern Believing articles, conferences and panels and anything else that’s on members’ minds
Forum will meet every other month on a Monday evening from 7 – 8pm, with the Zoom room remaining open until 8.30pm for those who would like to linger longer for informal conversation.
The facilitators are:
Alison Webster (General Secretary)
Elaine Graham (Chair of Trustees)
Lorraine Cavanagh (Trustee)
