May 31, 2024If you are passionate about a faith that is open, inclusive, conversational, engaged with the world and other disciplines, then this role offers you an exciting opportunity to support a progressive theological union across a diverse portfolio of communication mediums.
Now is a crucial time for Modern Church. We have been undergoing a thorough review of our work – our publications, events (online and in person), membership structure, partnership-working and the communications that underpins and enhances so much of what has made us successful over the last 126 years. As a movement, we are now growing slowly but convincingly, and we now seek the person who can help us to continue to evolve to meet the changing landscape around the world of theology.
The successful candidate will bring experience and excellence in: website design and management; making an impact through a variety of social media platforms; designing attractive marketing materials for conferences and publications; technical support for live-streaming of online lectures and events, and hybrid gatherings.
8 hours per week at £17.05 per hour (on an employed basis, by PAYE)
Holidays 40 hours per year (25 days per year pro rata)

Communications Officer Role Description
The Communications Officer will work closely with the General Secretary and Administrator to celebrate and share the work, events, and thought pieces of Modern Church and its partner organisations.
The Communications Officer will be responsible for keeping Modern Church’s website up to date and scheduling content for its social media accounts, primarily Twitter/X and Facebook. They will also liaise with the editors of Modern Church’s printed publications, Modern Believing and Signs of the Times, to publicise new articles and news pieces to ensure continuity between print and digital across platforms.
The appointed person will be expected to work alongside and report on their work to the Trustees of Modern Church, as well as identifying potential opportunities to expand Modern Church’s reach into new areas. The Communications Officer will work with an Apple Macbook Pro, provided by Modern Church.
Essential:
● Affinity with the ethos of Modern Church
● Excellent communication skills, particularly around content creation
● Ability to work as part of a team
● Knowledge of WordPress CMS
● Knowledge of social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
● Able to self-start and manage time effectively
● Good reporting skills
Desirable:
● Working knowledge of Mailchimp
● Appreciation of Christianity and its role in the world
● An awareness of the world of theology
● Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud
● Able to take photographs and record video
● Good working knowledge of online meeting platforms such as Zoom, Teams and WhatsApp
